The girls golf team repeated as both Area 3-AAAA and AAAA state champions this year.
Along the way they defeated state champions in all other classifications during the year. This is the seventh state title for the girls program. They won every event they entered this year, except for the Red Terror Ryder Cup where they tied for second. The team graduates two seniors in Ayanna Habeel (Southern Illinois U) and Teagan Fritts (Christopher Newport U), who both finish their careers with three state championship rings and a runner-up to go along with four straight Area 3-AAAA titles. The girls will reload next season with a high powered lineup including Morgan Ellison, Aly Francis, and Amelia Connor. All of these girls have state titles under their belts and are ready to continue the championship streak. The goals never change, only the players. It is full speed ahead to grab state title number eight, and the third state title in a row. Hard work is always rewarded.
This fall, we sat down with a very important figure in the Woodward athletics world, but one who operates in largely a behind-the-scenes role: assistant athletic director Gene Patterson. [ecae_button]
