War Eagle Watch

Competing against the hurdles of the COVID-19 pandemic, the War Eagle Cross Country program had a very successful 2020 campaign. After a strong regular season, both boys and girls squads captured the Region 3-AAAAA Championship.

Jack Dempsey finished as the individual Region Champion, and along with Justin Frediani, Elo Agbogu, Thomas Freer, Swen Cain, Aakash Patel, and Louie Bates swept the boys top 7 spots to earn a perfect team score of 15. The girls’ team also earned a perfect team score of 15 as Kenyah Conner (the individual girls champion), Shristi Roy, Wallace Putt, Abbey Miller, Nadia Alavi, and Gabby Hill finished 1-6. Earning Boys All-Region honors were Jack Dempsey, Justin Frediani, Elo Agbogu, Thomas Freer, Swen Cain, and Aakash Patel, while Kenyah Conner, Shristi Roy, Wallace Putt, Abbey Miller, Nadia Alavi, and Gabby Hill earned All-Region honors for the girls squad. Their excellent performance in region play qualified both teams for the GHSA State championships, where the boys team of Justin Frediani, Jack Dempsey, Thomas Freer, Louie Bates, Aakash Patel, Oscar Rivera, and Swen Cain improved 1:15 on their team average from September to place 24th in the field. The girls team of Kenyah Conner, Shristi Roy, Hannah Ackerman, Nadia Alavi, Wallace Putt, Abbey Miller, and Gabby Hill improved 1:50 on their team average from September to place 11th in their race.
