The Clay Target team participated in a total of 11 events this season, including the NSCA National Sporting Clays Championships.
Despite competing against more than 2300 student-athletes at the NSCA event, four Woodward students placed, including Turner Kurzweg (2nd D Class), Thomas Gunnigle (2nd E Class), Finn Gosch (15th D Class), and Izzy Baldwin (2nd Ladies E Class and 11th E Class). The Clay Target team ended their season by placing 3rd at the 2017 GISA Clay Target State Championships. The team posted its highest score ever thanks to Turner Kurzweg (8th), Grayson Phillips (10th), and August Stowers (10th), with each earning All-State Honors for finishing in the top ten overall. A special congratulations is owed to Turner Kurzweg for his trip to the top of the podium to collect the 2017 State Trap Championship! Other state placers include Izzy Baldwin (2nd Sporting Clays, 4th Trap, 4th Skeet), Catie Droogmans (3rd Skeet), Abby White (3rd Sporting Clays, 5th Skeet), and Meg Morris (4th Sporting Clays), who all performed exceptionally well in the ladies competition.
