The 2018-2019 War Eagles boys basketball team enjoyed an amazing, history-making season.
The boys finished the season 22-9, while playing one of the toughest schedules in the state. The War Eagles split a pair of War Eagle Classic games with Zachary High School (LA) and Miramar HS (FL), before finishing 5th in the Next Level Hoops Fest in Nashville over Christmas break. Woodward entered the new year red hot, winning eight out of nine down the stretch en route to their second consecutive Region 4-AAAA title. This group became only the second team in school history to collect back-to-back Region titles. The success continued, as the War Eagles captured the first two games of the state tournament in dramatic fashion before going on the road to play Denmark HS in the Elite 8. Woodward, supported by an amazing crowd, pulled out a hard fought victory and advanced to the AAAA Final Four, joining the ’97 War Eagles as the only Woodward teams to reach that round of the tournament. However, the War Eagles’ title hopes ended there with a loss to eventual state champion Carver HS.
This historical season was the result of the hardwork and dedication from the players, incredible senior leadership, and a supportive Woodward community. The War Eagles look to build on this foundation next season and in seasons to come!
