Boys basketball wins region in 2018.
The Woodward Academy boys basketball team completed a tremendous 2018 season with a record of 20-9. The team, led by five seniors, continued to mature throughout the season and found great success along the way. The War Eagles finished 2-0 in the War Eagle Classic, defeated South Gwinnett HS in the inaugural Atlanta Hawks/Naismith Classic, and finished 3rd in the Westminster Holiday Tournament. This season, the War Eagles won three consecutive tournament games to capture the 2018 Region 4-AAAA Championship, the 4th region title in school history. The War Eagles were eliminated from state tournament play in the “Sweet 16.” Individually, Kevin Powell earned All-Region Honorable Mention, while newcomer Walker Kessler was voted Region 4-AAAA Player of the Year, GACA All-State, and Region 4-AAAA Sophomore of the Year! The War Eagles are excited about their season, but not satisfied as they look to continue building for next season.
