FROM THE ATHLETIC DIRECTOR

From the Athletic Director

Dear Woodward Community,

Every season, I am reminded of what is truly great about Woodward Academy athletics when I observe the strong character and sportsmanship exhibited by our student-athletes.

The winter 2016-2017 season was no exception, and I am pleased to report that our varsity basketball, swimming and diving, wrestling, and clay target teams demonstrated the true War Eagle spirit. I invite you to read about the winter season and some of our talented student-athletes and coaches throughout our War Eagle Watch website. Our wrap-up includes recaps of every one of our varsity winter sports, as well as profiles of new varsity swimming coach and Woodward alumna Danielle LeFevers ‘08 and senior basketball player and soon-to-be University of Chicago student Brennan McDaniel.

In addition to McDaniel, we are very proud to report that 23 other student-athletes signed National Letters of Intent in February to play collegiate-level athletics for universities and colleges around the United States.

Although I am extremely proud of the way our teams performed this winter, I have even greater pride in the fact that our student-athletes know the true value of playing sports the right way and conducting themselves with great character on the playing field or court. I am grateful to be able to serve these incredible student-athletes and dedicated coaches.

I hope you enjoy reading about our winter season, and I invite you to join us to cheer on our spring sports teams at home and away.

Sincerely,

Jose Fernandez, Ed.D., Athletic Director
