The Woodward boys ultimate team had a very successful year.
The Varsity team ended the regular season with a 12-5 record. The team’s ranking — No. 3 in the state of Georgia – earned the boys a bye in the first round of the playoffs. In the quarterfinals, the team got off to a slow start against Brookwood, falling behind 6-2. While they staged a furious comeback, time ran out, with Brookwood winning 10-8.
Despite graduating 10 seniors from this team, the future looks bright. The JV team edged out both Paideia’s and Grady’s JV teams on the way to the Division 2 State Title. Rising seniors and captains-to-be Jake Landgraff and Jake Leader will head a young, but motivated, group in 2019 that seeks to continue Woodward’s rise in the state rankings.

Ken Kirschner, Head Coach
Coach Kirschner became the head coach for the Ultimate Frisbee program starting with the 2016-17 season. During his inaugural season, both the boys and girls teams showed steady and significant improvement from the start of the practice through the state tournament, eventually being eliminated in the quarterfinal round. Coach Kirschner’s background in Ultimate goes back to 1997 when he became a member of the Georgia Tech Ultimate Team. He was a starter on that team for 2 seasons. Prior to coaching ultimate, Coach Kirschner spent 5 years coaching JV and Middle School girls soccer.
