Dear Woodward Community,
What a tremendous season for athletics at Woodward Academy! I commend and congratulate all of our student-athletes for the good sportsmanship, humility, and integrity they displayed both on and off the playing fields and courts. With 35 graduates from the Class of 2017 continuing on to play at the collegiate level, I have great pride in the Academy’s athletic program and the way in which we prepare our student-athletes for success beyond Woodward.
Our baseball, golf, lacrosse, riflery, soccer, tennis, track and field, and Ultimate teams demonstrated true War Eagle spirit by competing with honor. I invite you to read about the spring season and some of our truly talented student-athletes and coaches throughout our War Eagle Watch website. In addition to recaps of every one of our varsity spring sports, our wrap-up highlights a couple of our spring athletes who enjoyed great success this season, including varsity track and field pole vaulter Alex Potts, who set numerous Academy records, and varsity tennis player Finn Gosch, who helped his team advance to the playoffs.
Also this spring, we celebrated long-time track and field coach Tim Hamling by naming the track and field complex in his honor — the Timothy J. Hamling Track & Field Complex. Coach Hamling represents the epitome of a great coach and wonderful mentor to our student-athletes and I am extremely proud to see his name memorialized on one of our facilities.
I hope you enjoy reading about our spring season here at the Academy. And when we return to school in August, I invite all of you to join us as we cheer our fall teams on to victory. Go, War Eagles!
