The boys swimming & diving team finished the 2016-17 season with an impressive 7-1 dual meet record. The team also recorded a 2nd place finish at the annual Atlanta Kickoff Classic and a 4th place finish at the 45-team Metro City Championships in January. Individually, ten members of the squad (Emanuel Abdul-Salaam, Neal Allen, Grant Barchard, Nick Benson, Will Dunkel, Jelani Durley, Alex Hickox, George Kimbrough, Joseph Makilya and Jacob Willis) qualified for the GHSA State Championships this season, where the War Eagles finished 11th overall out of 105 teams.
The 200 free relay team of Abdul-Salaam, Kimbrough, Willis and Allen finished 6th with a time of 1:29.20. Willis was the top individual for Woodward, taking 14th in the 100 butterfly. Hickox represented Woodward in the diving portion of the state competition, where he placed 15th in the 1-meter event with a score of 325. Woodward will graduate just two seniors from this group, which should position the team for a strong showing in 2017-18.
